Tuesday: The Gathering in Auburn

Tuesday morning.... off and running to our meeting point in Auburn Indiana.  The weather is perfect... temps in the 60's, clear skies and no wind.  Looks like it is going to be a great day.

But first, yesterday Bob and Missy McKenna has a rainy start in Virginia, but coming into Ohio  from West Virginia they encountered and captured this wonderful photo of the cloudy ski with stacks billowing vapor so it looked like the stacks were making the clouds.  Terrific photo Missy... thanks for sharing.

We started about 10 from Grafton, OH.... loaded with clothes and snacks and tools.

Driving two lane roads across Ohio has its pluses and minuses.  The roads were smooth and straight, but sometimes the view was obstructed..... Oh well...

Once to Auburn about 2:30, our room was ready and the hotel reflected our memories of having been here before with Mog meetings of yore.  Nice place, now a Quality Inn.... but still called the Auburn Inn.

Auburn is the city where the Auburn and Cord and Duisenberg autos were built in the 20's and 30's.  The old factory and office building is now a museum to these fascinating old cars.

The old art deco building in itself is a wonder.... but the magnificent collection of cars of awesome.

This Model A Duisenberg introduced in 1920 is a suburb example of the quality of the cars in this house.

A Dusey engine is huge!!!!

This 1931 Cord is a find example of the first front wheel drive cars in America.

Back to the hotel... the gang has all arrived, left to right Kneisley's, McKenna's, Hahn's, Koenig's, Millers's and Campbell's car all in a row.  Others will join us tomorrow.

So, on the porch of the hotel and time to catch up with old friends.  Vern and Sandy Campbell, Reg Hahn, Charlie Miller and Missy MeKenna.

The tour begins officially in the morning... as we crawl west and north along the east coast of Lake Michigan up to Ludington.  Weather looks good and the roads interesting.  See you then.

  1. IT'S A DUESEY!

A typical comment from a person who has observed any magnificent Deusenberg motorcar.

Combining phonetics with a common characteristic of forgetting how to spell uncommon names, while eager to pronounce his or her enthusiasm, many folks have put "It's a Doozy" into the 'Mericon' lexicon.

Hope to meet the Big Muddy RoughRiders in Ludington later tonight.

    Cheers,
