Wednesday: From Duesys to Dunes. Auburn, In to Luddington, MI

Wednesday dawned cool but clear promising another nice day for driving in the Midwest. Our trip today takes us across the top of Indiana to just below South Bend, then north along the Lake Michigan east coast.  Our day in Auburn, home of the Auburn, Cord, Duisenberg car legend was a Dusey.

The roads were clear and smooth across Indiana, with an early morning haze that made the horizon quite stunning.

The need to fuel the beasts and make a rest stop is usually about 90 minutes into the run.

We drove west to the turn north on Route 31, and were greeted with nice smooth divided roadway, 70 mph and clear sailing as the skies turned bright blue and virtually cloudless.

Our target was Saugatuck, MI, a neat lake side resort town.  We are a couple of weeks after Labor Day so the crowds are gone and we had the run of the place.  The cars always attract curious people to discover what the heck these fabulous little cars are all about.  Frequently someone has heard of Morgan's before, but most are surprised that they are still being built in a small town in England by a company that has been in business over a hundred years.  And we love to introduce new people to these unique automobiles.

The view of the harbor and all of the boats was interesting

We found a very nice restaurant on the water front.  Here Myron, Reg, Char, Vern, Sandy and Sally anticipate their lunch.  I'm behind the camera of course.

Back to the parking area, I thought this perspective of the cars in an angle parking arrangement would make a good photo.  Especially with Charlie's car showing the Great Britain colors.

Here the McKenna's are cruising along in their 1986 Morgan Plus 8.

The dunes....

After a long day of driving and sun we finally made our hotel in Ludington, MI, about half way up the state on the west side.

We were pleased to see Art Kampschafer and Bill Boyles and their wives had arrived already from Texas to join our pub crawl.

Our dinner tonight was a cozy affair where Charlie arranged a private area in the restaurant so all 15 of us were able to sit together.  Charlie made the official welcome.

Bob and Missy McKenna from Virginia

Bill and Judi Boyles from Texas.

Art and Patsy Kampschafer from Texas

Host Charlie Miller and Beth from Ohio and Hilton Head

Char and Reg Hahn from Cincinnati.  Bob McKenna in the back.

Myron Koenig from Cincinnati hamming it up with my dear Sally.

Vern and Sandy Campbell from Miamisburg, OH

And we have heard from Alan Marsh of Washington DC that he expects to be here tonight... but obviously running late en route here.

More tomorrow from Egg Harbor, Wisconsin.
